Decorate Your Plastic Pots with Wallpaper

Find out how to dress up your plastic houseplant pots quickly and inexpensively with wallpaper. This is a fun and easy way to bring the design elements of a room and your indoor garden together.

Hello and welcome to HealthyHouseplants.com, where we teach you all about gardening and the great indoors! If you’d like to support our show, please use our Amazon affiliate link below. Today, I’m going to show you a little trick I use to bring all of the colors together in a room with plants.

This is a wallpaper around this pot here, and you can see it’s very decorative and pretty. It works really well for African violets. I’ll even turn the pink side out when I have pink violets displayed, and turn it around to the purple side when I have purple violets, which is really nice.

You can do this with any type of wallpaper. I actually have this border in my front room, which you can see in my annual houseplant tour video for 2022. This wallpaper is at the ceiling level in that room, and I’m planning to make more of these beauties to go along with the plants there. I have a lot of African violets in that room, so the pinks, blues, and purples in this wallpaper fit perfectly.

Here’s an example with a white catch pot where you could put the plants inside. I had to cut the wallpaper in half because it was too long for most of these pots. You might want to cut off the border and adjust it to fit evenly on one of these pots. This smaller piece works well here, so I’m playing around with it to see what fits best. You can do a full wraparound, though you might have a seam. If you work it well with the design, like on this one, the seam is barely noticeable.

There are taller pots too, and you might find wallpaper that matches the height, which would be cool. You may need to cut a few different seams and fit them together because of the pot’s roundness. Even ugly pots can look a lot better with just a bit of decoration. For instance, you could add a border at the top, or cover the entire pot with a color that complements your room’s design. Once done, it will look much better, and I’ll have to trim the bottom to taper it.

I often use E6000 glue for craft projects. It binds well to most plastics, though not all, so you might need to experiment. Make sure the glue you choose binds well to both the wallpaper and the pot. You could also try wallpaper paste, though I haven’t tried it myself. It’s worth experimenting, depending on the surface you’re working with.

So, there you go—a way to make your houseplants even prettier and bring your entire design scheme together with plants and accessories in your home. You could even use fabric that matches your upholstery or other elements in your room. I always like to create vignettes and design spaces that bring all the elements together, making your plants shine.
