We start in the bathroom with a ficus lyrata, commonly known as a fiddle leaf fig. This trendy plant was a rescue about ten years ago and has overcome health problems to thrive in the southern exposure window. Nearby, a pothos vine grows well away from the window, demonstrating its adaptability to lower light conditions.
In the northwest corner of the living room, we see a Dracaena Janet Craig, which does well in medium light. It’s paired with a pink moth orchid (Phalaenopsis) and a pink Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema), creating a beautiful vignette with complementary colors.
The dining room features a tower with African violets, including some minis and a recently repotted purple and white flowering variety. There’s also a fairy garden with a pink polka dot plant and another fiddle leaf fig. A large Croton plant complements a painting by the host’s daughter, while a hanging gourd holds a fern. The room also includes a rubber tree being restored, an AeroGarden, a Brazilian cardamom succulent, and a Hoya.
The living room and dining area showcase a variety of plants, including a palm, Arrowhead vine, Dracaena corn plant, Anthurium, pothos, peace lilies, and more. The host emphasizes the benefits of grouping plants for a lush look and improved humidity.
In the office, a wall display features a Hoya with sentimental value, having been propagated from a plant owned by the host’s great-great-aunt. The area also includes tropical-themed decorations, reflecting the host’s time living in Panama.
The tour concludes with a large aralia plant that was rescued from being discarded at a yoga studio, now standing 10-12 feet tall.
