Today, we have a plant care video for the beautiful fern known as the Astral Gem. This fern belongs to the Asplenium genus, which includes hundreds of ferns like the Bird’s Nest Fern. The Astral Gem is a hybrid fern that originated in Australia, hence its name. This plant grows to approximately 18 inches by 18 inches indoors and is a sterile variety, meaning it doesn’t produce spores like other ferns. It’s also pet- and kid-friendly!
What makes the Astral Gem so special is its adaptability to various indoor conditions. Unlike many ferns requiring high humidity and medium light, the Astral Gem thrives in lower humidity and can tolerate bright, medium, or even low light.

The Astral Gem is a hybrid fern from the Asplenium genus, known for its adaptability and suitability as a pet- and kid-friendly indoor plant.
What lighting conditions does the Astral Gem require?
The Astral Gem can grow in a range of lighting conditions, from low to medium to bright light. For best results, provide medium light while avoiding too much direct sunlight.
How should I water the Astral Gem?
Water the plant when the soil’s top inch has dried out or when a moisture meter reads four. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
How do I fertilize the Astral Gem?
Fertilize monthly from early spring through summer with organic fertilizer. Avoid chemical fertilizers, and consider using worm castings year-round.

Maintain daytime temperatures between 65°F and 75°F and nighttime temperatures around 60°F. Avoid drastic temperature fluctuations.
When should I repot the Astral Gem?

What pests and diseases affect the Astral Gem?
Root rot can occur if overwatered. Occasionally, mealybugs or scale may appear. Treat with isopropyl alcohol and neem oil if necessary.
