In a prior video, we revived a spider plant named Lucy. This video shows you how Lucy is doing now and gives some tips on keeping revived spider plants healthy and happy indoors. To have happy and healthy spider plants as houseplants, you want to give them proper lighting and raise the humidity, if necessary. Take a look and see how well Lucy is doing!

Today, we’re checking in on Lucy, a spider plant I revived in a video last month (September 6). At the time, Lucy had browning leaf tips and looked a bit tired, but now she’s thriving with new growth and a vibrant green appearance. Spider plants like Lucy have a unique look, resembling a head of hair, and as they mature, they develop small plantlets, or “babies,” that can be potted to grow new plants.
One important factor for spider plants is lighting. Indoors, they require bright, indirect light or a full-spectrum grow light if a bright window isn’t available. Lucy receives both natural light from a medium-bright window and additional full-spectrum lighting, helping her grow well.
Watering is another key aspect of spider plant care. Avoid overwatering, but also don’t let the plant dry out completely. I water Lucy when her soil reaches a moisture level of around four on the meter – almost dry but not fully. This ensures she stays hydrated without becoming waterlogged.
Humidity is also essential for spider plants. You can use a humidity tray with gravel or pebbles, filling it with water and placing the plant on top (without allowing the leaves to touch the water) to avoid browning tips. Misting the plant once or twice daily also keeps it moist.
Lucy was fertilized when I first repotted her in September. I’ll add more fertilizer in a few weeks, as it’s best to wait for the plant to stabilize and show new growth before fertilizing again. After that, a regular feeding schedule of every four to eight weeks will keep her healthy.

Spider Plant Care FAQ
What kind of lighting does a spider plant need indoors?
Spider plants need bright, indirect light indoors. If natural light isn’t available, full-spectrum grow lights work well to support their growth.
How often should I water my spider plant?
Water your spider plant when the soil is almost dry, but not completely. Using a moisture meter, aim for a reading of around four.
How can I provide humidity for my spider plant?
Use a humidity tray with gravel or pebbles under the pot to create a moist environment. Avoid letting the leaves touch the water to prevent brown tips.
Is misting beneficial for a spider plant?
Yes, misting once or twice a day can help maintain moisture and improve the plant’s humidity levels.
When should I fertilize my spider plant after repotting?
Wait until the plant has stabilized and shown new growth before fertilizing, usually a few weeks after repotting. Then feed every four to eight weeks.
