Hello and welcome to HealthyHouseplants.com, where we teach you all about gardening and the great indoors. If you’d like to support our show, please use our Amazon affiliate link below. Today, we are doing a final check-in on the Hoya that was originally rooted in water and then transitioned to soil roots.

This is Shelley, and she’s doing really well. Since the last video, she hasn’t changed a ton, though her leaves have grown a bit bigger. The reason for today’s check-in is that we’re going to be saying goodbye to her. Shelley will soon be on her way to Arizona to live with my sister Mandy, who has plenty of light and windows, a perfect environment where Shelley will hopefully be flowering and looking beautiful in no time.

Shelley came from a cutting of an original plant belonging to my great-great-aunt. I received the cuttings about 15 years ago, grew multiple plants, and have continued making cuttings over the years. My sister, who also loves growing plants, wanted a cutting, which brings us to Shelley here today. As mentioned before, Hoyas root well in water and can then be converted to soil roots, which differ from water roots. Shelley has been a great subject to demonstrate this transition.

I will probably share some photos of her later on, especially if she flowers, so you can see how she’s progressing. If you’re interested in learning how to root plants in soil that were initially rooted in water, check out our previous videos. There is a specific process to ensure the best success with this technique.
